Boody sets new sustainable standard for Australian brands

In its mission to put sustainability first, Boody has recently started working with Australian ecommerce fulfilment provider, eStore Logistics to improve the customer returns process by minimising waste and increasing efficiencies.
“To help us fulfil our mission of putting sustainability first, we started working with ecommerce fulfillment provider, eStore Logistics earlier in the year,” Boody managing director, Shaun Greenblo told Retailbiz.
“Before we started working with eStore, customer returns were sent back to the Boody offices and manually packed and reshipped – this caused a lot of unnecessary waste and delays.
“eStore now efficiently manages returns for us, minimising its overall environmental impact and giving time back to the business. eStore also effectively processes packages with our sustainable packaging. Our packaging is all biodegradable and the ink used on the boxes is vegetable ink. Having safely handed this part of the ecommerce process over to eStore, we can now focus on other parts of the business.”
Many of eStore Logistics customers are looking for ways to be more sustainable, according to founder and managing director, Leigh Williams.
“In the past, it was trendy and popular for brands to opt for over-the-top packaging to make an impression on customers. This is now seen as wasteful, and consumers expect brands to prioritise simplicity and sustainability. Packaging can say a lot about what you stand for as a brand today which is important for ecommerce businesses,” Williams told Retailbiz.
“We have worked closely with Boody to activate sustainable packaging for all their deliveries which goes as far as using vegetable ink. We’ve also helped streamline a lot of the back and forth that comes with the deliveries and returns process making it as efficient as possible, while helping to cut down waste and put time back into the Boody business.”
Boody is committed to producing high-quality products, with a focus on sustainable materials and practices, Greenblo said.
“We know bamboo is a more sustainable material and that’s why we have used it from day one. Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide and releases over 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere compared to an equivalent mass of trees. This makes bamboo excellent for absorbing greenhouse gases and producing clean, fresh oxygen.”
Boody was born from a collective passion, drive and demand for a simpler wardrobe made from sustainable fabrics that supported the everyday lifestyle.
“This passion saw my Dad, David and his friend Neil, on a journey to simply design better basics; both bringing their experience in fashion and pharmacy together to force sustainable change,” Greenblo added.
“Our team all work to not just deliver a product that’s better for the planet but to use Boody as a platform to be real, transparent, open and honest – we owe it to the planet to be better.”
Boody designs reduce wastage, and its factories use state-of-the-art computer knitting machines to create seamless garments meaning fabric waste is minimal.
“We say no to pesky pesticides. The bamboo used to create our signature, soft designs are grown organically – without pesticides or fertilisers. We’re also mindful of consumption. We use rainwater to grow our bamboo and all the water used in the production process is recycled and reused.
“You’ll also notice each of our products have an impact index. An impact index is a tool that calculates the environmental impact of each product. By measuring our own environmental footprint, we can let our community know and understand environmental savings when better practices are used,” Greenblo said.
